Study to Word

Recently I discovered something so simple and so true in the word of God that I was stunned that I had never seen this before.  It does not matter how many years you have been studying the word of God, He is going to show you something new and wonderful.  His word is alive, sharp and revealing, it is rich, deep and multilayered.  We know this on the surface and we are reminded in a deeper way of this fact when we discover something “new” in His word.  So why aren’t we in His word all the time?  Why do the cares of the world, the entertainments of today, the reasons and excuses push us away from studying the word?

I guess the answer to that is as varied as the people answering the question.  One common thread runs through all of those reasons and excuses; satan has convinced us it is not important.  After all, “we went to church Sunday.”  “I did pray this morning and I had some worship time in the car on the way to work.”  Or “I’m in the ministry; I study on Saturday for my lesson/message, etc.”  “Oh God loves me anyway no matter whether I study the scriptures or not.”  Yes He does love us and those few minutes of worship on the way to work help and we should be in church every Sunday.  It is not about any of that.  It is about our enemy who is seeking someone to destroy.  We need to know God through His Word so that we can be effective warriors in our homes, churches, workplaces and in the world.  Friends I urge you to set everything aside and dig into the word.  We need to know what God is saying to us now more than ever and truthfully some one’s life may depend on you knowing what He said.
